Why Choose Dental Implants

Clear advantage of teeth implants

Dental implants are acknowledged by many as the best way to replace missing teeth, indeed the ‘gold standard’. There are a number of clear advantages over traditional techniques like dentures as follows:

  • Strong and resilient – looks and feels like a natural tooth
  • Restores full function
  • Eat any food you wish - unlike dentures
  • Strengthens the jaw structure and minimises bone loss
  • With regular diligent care, guaranteed to last for 10 years.

Single implants can be used to replace one missing tooth or several implants in combination to replace multiple missing teeth. A very versatile solution!

How are dental implants structured?

1. The Crown – This is the visible part of the tooth that sits on top of the implant itself. Typically the crown is made of porcelain but natural looking composites are also being introduced. Single implants are increasingly common but where adjoining teeth need to be replaced, two implants can be used to provide support for a dental bridge. It is possible use a treatment known as ‘all on 4’ to support a full arch of teeth using just four or sometimes six implants.

2. The Post (Abutment) - A collar called an abutment is used to form a very solid platform on top of the implant for seating the crown. This is invisible once the crown is in place.

3. The Dental Implant - The implant itself is a very high precision titanium rod that is screwed into the jawbone to replace the natural tooth root. Titanium is very strong, inert and integrates naturally with the surrounding bone structure – a process known as osseointegration. As soon as the implant has fused successfully with the natural jaw bone, the abutment and crown can be fixed in place.
